Internal frame pack (~30L) for a very narrow waist (~27")

Hi everyone!

I'm wondering if y'all have personal experience or suggestions for packs that fit a very narrow waist. Specifically, I'd be interested in a panel loader or similar panel access functionality, ~28-35L (preferably on the lower end). Torso about 19". Cheaper end of price range would be preferred, used (or no longer in production) is fine.

Any ideas? Any modern Gregory or Deuter has too large of a waistbelt. Boreas Muir Woods 30 is a possibility. Osprey Kestrel 32 is another.

Given your fitting, capacity & loading requirements, you may have to have a custom made pack built. ZimmerBuilt packs might be one option.

I am pretty petite (4'-11"), and I've had great luck with ULA packs. As far as capacity goes, you may want to go with the Ohm or the CDT. The total pack capacity for those packs are a bit larger than what you are looking for, but the volume for the main pocket is in your range. The Ohm also cinches down pretty well. One of the small or medium size packs will fit your torso, and they come with different belt sizes. Their small belt fits just fine for my 26" waist. By the time you figure in costs for getting a used or discontinued models from another brand and/or possibly getting it "customized to fit you, the difference in price will be minimal.

As far as another pack that fits a small waist and has an adjustable torso, the Osprey Talon 33 would be good choice. I think Osprey is phasing the Talon series out in favor of the newer Exos and Hornet series but you can still find them on any major online retailer (e.g.- REI, Backcountry, Backcountry Edge, etc.)

Just another thought, when you're looking for a pack with a limited or specific capacity like you are, having a waist belt may not be beneficial.

I would look for packs with interchangeable waist belts, such as ULA. Otherwise, I think you will have trouble finding one to fit your torso length with a waist belt that is small enough.

Granted, waist and hips are somewhat proportional, but not exactly a direct relationship.
30 liters = 1,830 cubic inches. That is a large book bag or day pack.
The ULA CDT pack's main compartment is 1,750 cu. in. However, the CDT has a fixed hipbelt in two sizes.

The ULA OHM 2.0 is 2,100 cu. in. / 34 liters. Probably a better choice in case you need some extra room. It offers more choices in hipbelt sizes.

30L pack shouldn't need a hip belt or a frame, unless you're hauling a packload of gold coins or something.
