I am thinking about parking cars at the USFS 518 Trailhead (mile 98.5 on the Parkay map) and the highpoint trailhead (161.1). Does anyone know how safe these are? Any nearby suggestions if they are not? Thanks!

I would not be concerned about parking at highpoint.

The Pinhoti crosses FS 518 about 1/10 of a mile off SR 281 just far enough to be out of sight
of traffic on 281 and there is not really parking there. You would need to park almost in the ditch
to allow for traffic to get by. If it were me, I would park on the wide shoulder along 281 at FS 518.
There is room to get completely off the road and not in the ditch. The hunters park this way all
along 281.
I just hiked section 8 today and the trail is in good condition with only a few deadfalls.

I have the same question re Adams Gap and Turnipseed. Is one safer than the other?
thanks

Thanks BlisterBob.

Nick I can help you a little on this one. I parked at Adams Gap around Christmas without any problem, and I was told it was one of the safest places to park. I think Turnipseed is safe too, but I would go with Adams Gap. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

I've often parked in these areas for days without an issue.

Thanks Y'all; it's been a few years since my AL Pinhoti Thru-hike. Am looking forward to seeing its progress.

Its nice to ask on WB - I would suggest to look down at the gravel and see the mixed in window glass for an answer.

Sometimes, its best to check here too

I left mine at highpoint over the weekend about a month ago with no problems. It's pretty visible from the road and I didn't see any "partying" artifacts laying around.
