I know hitch hiking is part of the thru hiking experience, and you've got to get used to it sooner or later, but do many people hitch right off the bat? From Gainesville to Amicalola, specifically. As I understand it, you can usually find someone to hitchhike with once you get going and meet people, but it's a little more worrisome when you're just getting started. Or maybe I'm worried about nothing. Any thoughts appreciated!

its not that its all that big a deal, its just off the beaten path, not many folks heading that way anyway. its not like gainesville has any love for the thru hikers, most barely know what that means

TippTumbles, I live in Gainesville, are you coming in on the train or bus? What date?

22weather- I'm coming in by bus on April 7 around 10 am, but my time schedule after that is flexible. If you are available for rides I would be very interested!
