In the 2013 and 2014 Thru Hikers Companion in the table listing for Maupin Shelter, it says that there is a place that you can buy groceries and "lodge" two miles west of the shelter, and 2.8 miles west of the shelter is a hostel. But, in the narrative part of the guide, nothing is mentioned about these. Can someone educate me on this?

You could do a resupply south of there at the Crab Tree Falls Campground. They have a small store. They're a couple of miles off the trail. Should be in your guide.

Also about 17 miles south is Montebello with a great hiker B&B and a store that's OK resupply. The give a fee lunch to hikers. Dutch Haus.

It says on their website that Dutch Haus is closed for 2014, so no free lunch this year... The store in Montebello is open and is a good bet for resupply.

It's been a few years since I last stopped at the Montebello store, they were into car camping food and snacks - hot dogs and baked beans kind of things. I hope to pass by there again this year, but not sure if it would be worth the detour now that the Dutch Haus won't be open. Will have to see what my food situation is when I get there I guess.
