You will know by Neels Gap if you are missing anything and can buy from there. Can also mail items home if you find you have something you don't really need. Experience is the best teacher.

Trail guide? Gotta have one of those. When are you leaving - soon? You look a little light on clothes. You can still expect some cold and wet days for the next month or so.

I have a trail guide, but have not made it into sections yet so I didn't weigh the whole thing. I am still looking for a down jacket like the Montbell EX light and a few other clothing type items. I am a section hiker due to where I am in life right now so I can pick and choose when to go. Looking to do the GA section over this summer. Might take a week off and go as far as I can and make up the rest on weekends.

This is true. Since I do section hikes, it will make it easier to tune my gear. Find out what works and what doesn't.

Okay then. Clothing is highly variable depending on where and when, so it's good to specify those little details. I guess you got the basics covered.

I was at Neels Gap over the weekend, and there was more than one hiker there buying warmer clothes or sleeping gear because it's been cold and damp.

The weather has been crappy the last few days probably more on the trail. Do you live near Neels? I am down in Dahlonega.

I have a number of gear lists with literally everything I carry down to the bad aids. If that could help send me a PM with your email address and I will forward...Good Luck, I got 5 lbs. out of my pack at Neels.....

Here's a backpacking checklist I made up years ago. I don't always take every item on the list, but at least I've considered them all.

Thanks for the lists and help. I think I am good to go except for a insulating layer. Any other input would be helpful.

Bring earplugs. They weigh almost nothing, and inevitably, you will be in a shelter or a hostel and someone will be snoring like an old lawnmower.

I think I actually have some. The kind you squeeze and then insert into your ear. I will throw them in my kit. Thanks.
