I would say 55º to cut down on sweating

20*-25* (f) No bugs, no mud, plenty of snow that reflects the moonlight and makes nighthiking great. Plus for some reason, the trails are often almost empty in the winter.

I prefer daytime temperatures in the 50s or low 60s.

Mid 60s. I don't like to be cold when I stop.

50s during the day, 30 at night. Easy to operate and comfortable. No sweat, few bugs, don't need a lot of winter gear.

30s. I stay very warm when moving and there's nothing I love more than sleeping in a warm bag when it's cool out.

35-45 degrees with a slight breeze, to cut down on sweating, no bugs, plenty of water, but in mid-summer 85-90 degrees is not ideal hiking in my oppinion.

35-40 daytime, and 15-20 nighttime. Anything above 50 is getting warm for me. I'm usually the person you'll hiking in a short-sleeve shirt when it's 45 out.

I'd say low 60s for me. Cool enough that I'm not too sweaty, but warm enough that I can nap in the sun without adding much in the way of clothes or unpacking my bag.

Mid 40's to mid 50's at night, no wind. 60's during the day, very mild breeze. I also prefer sunshine in the day and darkness with a full moon at night. And since we are talking ideal, I like the leaves on the trees to provide daytime shade from the sun. :)

Perfect for me too. Warm enough not to need a bunch of cold weather gear, cool enough not to sweat.

While I'm moving, I can deal comfortably and happily with 20-80 degrees. As long as I'm not wet or dehydrated. It's not the temp I worry about but the precip, especially cold wet precip. If I had my druthers I'd say 60-70 degrees is perfect.

Add me to the "I love autumn" temps. It is my favorite time to be outdoors (http://www.pmags.com/the-joys-of-autumn).

This is very much me. Only time I wear anything over a t shirt is if there is a wind chill.
ive hiked during the recent 10 degree weather this winter, but if it gets to 80 degrees I'm not hiking!

I just feel lucky to get out in whatever temps Miss Nature decides is right. I notice there's a Just Right crowd who won't hike or backpack unless it's just right---not too cold, not too hot. So, October in the mountains of TN and NC gets packed with this crowd. A month later and 30 degrees colder and there is no one. It's comical.

Comical to the point that it's too hot or too cold or too green or too many bugs or too many snakes or too brown or too dry or too much scrub or too wet etc on and on. Once you parse it all out there's no one willing to go. Excellent cuz it works for me.
