View Full Version : Very cool LED lights at Sears

I was poking around the Sears tool department and saw the coolest thing! They come two to a package - little (think about the size of a quarter or smaller) LED clip on lights! Each one has two LED's that each have their own switch. Best of all you can clip these things anywhere (tent, ball cap, etc)! And they use watch batteries! $20 for the set. I think I am going to get them payday and play around with them and put them through their paces!

Here's a pic

you can also glue a dot of velcro to the inside of your ball cap brim and the corresponding velcro to the side of a photon light. works in a pinch.

will do! I can't imagine that they weigh even that much! But there is some sort of little case with them -that might add it up.

Cool trick Seeker!

I always did think Sears had the best backpacking gear. They have a lightweight tent which only weighs 43 pounds...

I always did think Sears had the best backpacking gear. They have a lightweight tent which only weighs 43 pounds...You find lightweight gear where you find it. Just because Sears, WalMart, KMart, etc sells a heavy tent does not that good lightweight gear can be found, and often cheaper that your hiking boutiques. You don't need to buy the popular brand to get good gear, just like you can buy good, lightweight, backpacking food in supermarkets.

You just have to be smart enough to recognize it when you see it.

Not endorsing these lights, just the concept of buying gear the smart way.

CynJ,
Do each of the LEDs (two per clip) have it's own switch? aka Hi (both bulbs) and low (single bulb) settings... if so, the increased usefulness could be extra cool...

also, it appears that the bulb detach from the clips (which can be handy), they also SEEM more streamlined than other manufacturers...

all in all, nice find... I may have to try them...

I'd especially like to try them side-by-side to these (http://www.countycomm.com/light.htm) as they are less expensive and refill lights are actually less than the batteries...

Lanthar - if you look on the pic at the unit on the right- there are two switches - one for each LED. Another reason I thought they were so cool. :banana

I just wish they had better info on the site for battery life, et al.

I was impressed by getting two units with a total of 4 LED's for the same price as 1 little unit with 1 LED at EMS. Just have to make sure that they have decent battery life and are reasonably water resistant.

I thought that was what the picture seemed to indicate, just needed confirmation... I look forward to hearing your opinions after you play with it. In the mean time I might pick up the countycomm.com ones and give my impressions on those.

Cheers!

Are those squeeze switches or will they stay on once you push them? I have one Photon (or someone) that has a tiny on/off switch. I think the ones you have to keep squeezing are pointless.

Pointless for continuous hiking or reading, but very useful for finding a keyhole or signaling someone in the dark.

each little switch slides and clicks into place - so they can stay on independently

can you believe there's about a $5 difference in the price between the two?! all for a switch...

nicer ear mounted LED (http://www.radtech.us/Products/Eyelighter.aspx)

I have one... love it... one caveat: gotta position it right or it shines in your eye... think position it to shine from below your cheek bone rather than from your temple

I think the ones you have to keep squeezing are pointless. The problem is that if you drop one at night the light goes out and you can't find it. WIth a switch, the light stays on and you just pick up your light and continue on your way.

They're usually found (in Philadelphia at least) near the checkout aisles in automotive stores and sporting goods stores. You can pick them up online as well.
