As I am working on making my silnylon tarp, I am also thinking about bug netting. Originally I was going to sew it into the tarp, but i have been conviced otherwise (thanks everyone!). I am now looking for a design that would fit two people comfortably, bags zipped together or not, and that can be attatched to the inside of the tarp or from the inside. I have two ideas in mind. One looks like this:

The other would be like a bug bar but with no floor...and probably not as rectangular...more like a tube.

But I'm sure there are better ideas out there.....

Any help?

I have a golite nest 2 AND

Height: 36 in / 91cm
Area: 24 sq ft / 2.2m2
WEIGHT: 1lb 2oz main

a lair 2
Height: 45 in / 114cm
Area: 34 sq ft / 3.2m2
Weight: 1 lb 8 oz main

I use this with my wife under the 3 man golite cave tarp (89sq ft).
The lighter nest 2 has side pullouts which helped keep the walls sagging when compared to the lair 2. The nest 2 however, is only 36inches high so only one person can be changing clothes. The design of the flap overhang instead of zipper requires a push-up maneveur to get out of the bug tent.

The lair 2 is a bit higher and heavier and slightly more spacious. It has a zipper which provides a "lil" more security, but not sure if it's really worth the weight.. Also, it goes to 45inches at the apex but how often do you set your tarp up above 4 feet at its apex?? Generally most people set the tarp at about 4 feet high placing a bug tent inside which will hang about 6 inches lower. So that has me taking my nest 2 more often than the lair 2...

I'll often just set up the tarp and use the bug net w/ floor as a ground sheet-- or if it's buggy hot and no rain you can just setup the bug tent w/o the tarp---also nice but more practical in the desert...(and you'd have to rig some longer lines)

I've camped with my friend in the smaller nest 2 and we did fine. He's 6'8in 175lbs and i'm 6'1 190lbs. It's cozy but not queer.

I will say the tarp is awesome space w/o the bug tents especially if you have a 3 man tarp and only sleep 2 under it... The cave 3 has about a 1 foot border of dead space around the edge w/ 2 peeps and gear under it...

This is my set up and in South Florida it works perfect. I have a net from a military pup tent off ebay that is the exact same shape and size as a pup tent. A- Frame. It is made to go OVER the military pup tent.
I set up my tarp as an A- Frame with trekking poles and the net underneath. I admit that it weighs just over a pound but the huge amount of room I get is worth it. The military bug nets, not the square ones are cheap on ebay, I paid $5 for mine and when set up with a tyveg ground sheet, people seem to really dig it. I wish I could set it up and take a pic, but I am being battered by Hurricane Rita as we speak.
This is the one I have;

OR has something called a "Double Bug Bivy". I think they've discontinued actively selling it but still have them in stock. They have a water proof floor and a hoop that keeps the upper part away from your head. My wife and I have the single bug bivy model and use them when we hike with a tarp.
