I thought for sure I would get one when I finished my thru-hike, I always said. Once I finished I had no interest in one. I think it was me playing a mental game with myself.

I got one prior to my thru in 2003. Because of all the rain we had that year I added a puddle and the year to the bottom of the tattoo when I got home.

I remember seeing a picture of someone who had the trail tattooed on his back.

The guy with the trail on this back was featured in Lion Kings DVD "Walking with Freedom"

Hmmm...not such a bad idea! I didn't think about it really until now but maybe when I finish it, I'll get a tattoo

It's on my To-Do list, I just need to find the time. I am very particular about the artist that puts ink on me, so I need to get time to make an appointment and make a day trip out of it. :jump

I've definitely thought about it. Had originally considered getting it when I finish, but heck, that won't be for 15 to 20 years,,,,, I want it sooner than that. Just not sure what to get. Probably just the "T" w/in the "A" symbol

If the link works, this is bozo the guy featured on lion kings dvd, And I think he hiked the trail for his 3rd time this year, not positive on that

I want to. But then again I don't, I'm so confused.

The plan(s), if I get one:

If I finish section hiking - the AT symbol but each "line" of the A & T seperate (in "sections") so 4 seperate lines. And maybe "from March 15 1997 to (date of comp.)"

If I thru, the AT symbol will be solid, perhaps with the year incorporated somehow, allowing space for aditional thru hike years if I repete.

The Ink will be mid calf, back of my right leg, I'm thinking the main color will be green.

I still have lots of time to think about it.

I was thinking the Superman logo with the AT style "AT" instead if the S would be really cool. :-?

After I finished my hike in 2001 I got a tattoo. It's on my right ankle. It's the AT symble, about 1" high with the year 2001 under it. It's simple but yet it's a daily reminder. (could I ever forget?) :)

It is Bonzo, not Bozo, who has the back piece.

yeah it is definitely "bonzo"....his back tat looks a lot cooler in person too, the pic just doesn't do it justice.

Im thinking along the lines of a dream catcher with the AT symbol in the center and one feather for each state with the state abr. hanging off the dream catcher.

That's awesome! Did you design that? An AT tattoo after a successful AT hike is the only tattoo I'd consider.

==================================
Thanks ...I can't take credit for the AT part. It's been around for a long time. But I did sketch out the overall design. We had so much rain in 2003 that there was talk about getting T-shirts that said "Appalachain Trail Swim Club". That inspired me to add the puddle and the year at the bottom. It's definitely a one of a kind and I like that.

Why not get the AT logo on the sole of your foot? Symbolic, unobtrusive, and generally less likely to suffer from the ravages of gravity.

Hay Slogger, your tattoo looks a lot like the one I got..Except I don't have the water, but it's a nice add for someone who hiked in 03.

But much more likely to suffer from the ravages of friction, most tattoo artists won't even do a tattoo on the sole of a foot and many don't like to do them on the sides or top of a foot either.

Personally I don't have an AT specific tattoo but I do have the Arc'Teryx logo on my back.

I will end up getting one soon. Will probably go with the AT symbol on my upper back shoulder. The other great part is seeing as my trail name is Almost There, they're my initials too.

I'm sure I'll be getting one, not sure what it will be, or where I'll put it. I'm kind of running out of space. I'm thinking of getting the brass AT plaque that is on the top of Springer Mt.

I think the real question here is not to tatoo or not to tatoo;
Its WHERE to tatoo!
I figure the soles of the feet would be the most appropriate place!

Does it realllly hurt that bad on your feet? I was going to get a tattoo on my foot, but opted for my lower back because so many people told me how much it would hurt on my foot. Let me tell you, it still hurt. A LOT. Is your foot really that much worse?

justusryans

The top or side would be fine. The heal or fore foot would even be ok, but the arch?? Absolutely would light you up!! :eek: :eek:

One of them starts on the outside of my foot at the heel and comes forward to my pinky toe. I have a gecko on top of my right foot. I have a daisy on one big toe and a lady bug on the other big toe. It sounds like alot but it looks awesome. I wish I had the capability to post a pic but I don't. Sorry. I have a high tolerance for pain. I have seven tats total and none of them really hurt :banana

Los Hermanos got the AT symbol on their shoulders before they started the trail, that way they had a little extra motivation to finish.

Nice design! ...I already have both legs used, one dive flag, the other a Bucs flag with tribal ring...I am running out of room for single tats, may start a sleeve, but I will be getting one after my Thru!

if you've been around the piercing/tattoo crowd then maybe you've seen an implant....an AT one might look good on upper arm.
