I can't seem to find this info online,,, & can't go to Wally World til the weekend. Anyone out there know the mil on the compactor bags, or are they made differently, & don't use a "mil" rating?

I believe the ones I bought at WalMart are 6 mil and they're made of a different type of plastic than standard trash bags. They seem stronger and aren't as "elastic".

Yeah... I''m looking at the boxes.Hmmm. Must be that there are different sizes and thinkness of trach compactor bags.

I don't know how thick mine are or the capacity because unfortunately, I threw the box away. I only have a half doxen liners in my gear bin. But they are definately heavier than two mil. They just fit nicely into a 3000 ci backpack, filling it side-to-side. Open they reach about two feet high. I just fold it over in the backpack so it has maybe 16-18 inches of waterproof storage. Enough for sleeping bag and clothing. They weigh 2.25 ounces each, a bit heavy but it is the heavyness that makes then waterproof and durable.

Frosty,

You might be surprised at what the thickness of yours is. Here is more info on what I have:

Hefty... 5 bags... 18 gal... 2' 1.75" x 2' 10"... 2.5 mil.
Kroger... 10 bags... 20 gal... 2' 4" x 2' 11"... 2 mil.

I don't have scales to measure them, but I may have weighed the heavier Hefty one's at one time as I'm thinking they are around 2 to 3 ounces.

Frosty,

I found a package of 1 mil drop cloth in my workshop. It is listed as 9'x12' and 0.516 lbs. From that I get a conversion of 0.688 oz/(yd^2 x mil). When I apply that to the dimensions of the 2.5 mil Hefty bag I get 2.3 oz, for the 2 mil Kroger bag I get 2 oz.
