Will a sleeping bag rated "Extreme: 32 degrees"/"Comfort: 54-71 degrees celsius work?

I have one in my closet. It's a British Brand (karrimor) and is only 700 grams. I have another one that's much older (about 15 years) and is much warmer but it's also 2-3 times as heavy.

I plan to start in late February-early March in Georgia. I know it may be dicey at first but would it make more sense to invest in a blanket/liner instead of buying a $400+ sleeping bag when the temperature will soon become very pleasant?

Basically, I'm trying to hike on budget and if I already have things, I want to use them!

With that sort of rating you're looking at summer bag, and that extreme rating might keep you from freezing to death in an emergency but you will be cold and not very comfortable.

You sure it is rate 54-71 Celsius? Comfort rating of 54-71 fahrenheit is not much of a sleeping bag. Comfort rating 54-71 Celsius is an very good air conditioner.

Feb March temps = single digets / w snow ,sleet , freezing rain and lots of wind. You choose, less $$$ or comfort.

Sierra Trading Post has the Marmot Helium on sale. It will keep you alive through May. Then switch to your lighter bag. Expect temps in single digits through March.

its 54-71 F not c
at 54c you need a freezer not a sleeping bag..
Incidentally when my Casio watch hit the 55c mark this summer the display bead to give me a full dark face.
(the temperature was confirmed by my Kestrel and a separate thermometer)
It recovered inside a few minutes later having my air con set at around 28c.
55c is 131f.................

When a bag says "extrem" it means it might keep you alive at that temp, but your not going to get any sleep. That bag is only good for mid summer. You want a bag with a comfort rating of 20 or lower for a late Feb start. It's not going to warm up soon if you start in Late Feb or early March. It doesn't warm up until into April. So you have 6 to 8 weeks of freezing your butt off.

If your on a budget and want to save money, start in mid April and you will need less gear and spend less money and have more time to save money.

I'll pile on to what everyone else is sayin'. Even in April, you're likely to have a few sub-freezing nights, maybe a bit of snow or sleet. You will, without a doubt, have days of walking in cold rain where you'll really be happy to have a good warm sleeping bag. Late-Feb/early March is still... winter. The mountains are big. They make their own weather. They're not the Himalayas or even the Alps but they'll earn your respect.
