How do you store/pack your tarp/tent stakes so they don't poke holes in the bag or backpack? I was using a piece of plastic tubing and sticking the ends of 3 stakes in each end of the tubes the points meet in the middle, just looking for a better way?

Never been a problem for me. They're in their own little bag. When I roll up the tent, that bag and the folded tent poles go in the center of the roll. They're not going anywhere.

My stakes go in a tyvek pouch in the front mesh pocket of my pack, along with my apex pole.

When I got my titanium stakes years ago, they were shipped in a small bubble-wrapped envelope with a flap. I still use it to store the stakes while I hike, although it's pretty beat up by now. Weighs less than nothing and does the trick. :)

I have a little silnylon pouch for the stakes, and roll it up carefully inside the tent when I pack in the morning.

I have had some problems with a sharp edge on a stake tearing a silnylon tarp -- I like the hollow aluminum stakes, and they often get sharp bits at the end after some use. If I then push them down inside the bag after the tarp is already in it, they can slice the tarp. So I've learned to (1) replace the stakes when they get sharp and (2) never push the stakes down inside a tarp or tent that's already stuffed.

I usually slip them into my buddy's pack when he's not looking. ;)

You are mistaking tent stakes with rocks. Or bricks. Or a case of beer. :)

Along with a couple of rocks?

To hold the stakes down in rough weather.

i recently discovered that the business end of the four needle stakes i use for a tarp will fit in the cap from a magic marker. Magic indeed!
