Happy to say my story made the local news. Whiteblaze.net folks deserve much thanks for helping me continue to learn as much as possible about safe hiking.

I hesitated to share, but decided to in case others can find some inspiration.

Can't read the article due to my iPad not wanting I zoom in. I did see that you are overweight, as am I. I've always believed the best thing about hiking is seeing skinny people puff & pant up an incline to see my fat ass already there admiring the view:)

And yes, I find that I can already out hike some of my thin friends. I struggle on inclines, but the rest I can coast for miles and they want to rest.

Thank you for sharing your story! Anytime someone turns their life around the way you have...it IS truly inspirational. I wish you all the best as you train... and for a safe, rewarding adventure on the trail in 2016.

If ever you want to meet up & hike together let me know. We can really show up these skinny people:)
Yeah my heart pounds on the inclines, but if my hike isnt in double digits then I don't feel like I've hiked at all.

Wolf, thank you for sharing your inspiring story. Many of us have been there, my friend, and hiking is such therapy. I too have often thought about it being a great metaphor for life. I just started section hiking last year, but even that keeps me on track for a goal with exercise and conditioning to do and preparations to manage and "experience" trips to take--I've had the best time on some of my overnights with Meetup Group strangers! I'm looking forward to following your journey.

Wolf-- I can so relate to your story. You are not alone. Not by a long shot. Thanks for sharing your story. Hang in there! Maybe we will meet on the trail one day!

Courage triumphs over cowardice once again! Congrats my man, you're among friends...cherish it, make your mark and, if you're so inclined, pass it on.

Greetings, Wolf !!

Kudos to you and your good decisions. Keep them going.

When do you plan to start in 2016? My starting date is 29 Feb 2016 right now. I get an extra day to hike the Trail and it's my late mom's birthday.

Sidetrail: I lived in Dale City - Smallwood Court - for 5 years while working in the Pentagon - '87-92. Where are you in Prince William County?

Hope to see you on the Trail. I'll be the old, slow guy you zip by.

I will be going SOBO in June and for the second question, really close to Hoadly and Dale Blvd. :)

I look forward to seeing others on the trail so we can share the triumph together.
