View Full Version : End of May Newfound Gap to Hot Springs, NC
Plan to hike from Newfound Gap (middle of Smokies where U.S. highway 441 intersects A.T.), to Hot Springs, NC beginning 27th or 28th of May. Figure it will take me about a week to 10 days. Is anyone interested in doing this section with me during this time frame?

Hope you have your reservations for the Smokies shelters already. I was supposed to do Newfounf Gap northward thru the park this weekend but bailed because of the weather. Glad I did. It was 39 degrees down in the valleys of WNC this AM. No telling how cold it was at 6000 feet of elevation. Good luck with your hike. :)

Cake is hiking from Clingmans to HS on the morning of the 28th to pick up where the storm and injury blew me off. The NPS renewed my permit for me. I will c u there.
have had to push back my hike. Will not do the northern part of Smokies but will start on June 2 at the northern edge of great Smokey mtn nat'l park and spend the night of Jun 2nd at groundhog creek shelter
