ATC needs help in our Harpers Ferry visitor center during northbound thru-hiker season, which will continue from right now though July. We especially need a friendly, outgoing person who can take and print the official hiker photos. If you like taking photos of people and enjoy meeting hikers, it's an incredibly fun job.

If you're willing to answer questions about Harpers Ferry services and attractions, local day-hikes, and the A.T. in Maryland and northern Virginia, run a cash register, help with restocking, make info packets, empty trash, etc. all the better, but some days you could do nothing but take photos all day long.

We're open 9am - 5pm seven days a week. We're tentatively planning on being open in June until 7pm. We will continue to need volunteers later in the summer (the need for photo taking drops dramatically toward the end of July), but our need is most critical right now.

If you're interested, email me at [email protected]. It would be especially helpful if you would fill out our ATC HQ volunteer application first, below. Sorry, we don't have any lodging available for volunteers, so this would work best for someone fairly local.

There are not many things more thrilling than taking the photo of a hiker who's really excited to reach ATC and the psychological halfway point of the A.T. This is a photo taken just a few days ago.

The good part about not having as many volunteers as we could use is that then sometimes I get to take the photos.
