I once turned around on the Keyhole route because clouds were gathering and winds were picking up. To our surprise, others pushed past us saying "we didn't come this far to turn around!". On the way down we saw lightning strike the summit... I think we met Darwin Award Nominees that day.

It just never ceases to amaze me how many people go out into the backcountry without any emergency gear whatsoever.

I wouldn't even think of taking a two hour hike into the bush without at least a basic emergency kit (light fire, stay warm/dry, purify water, emergency whistle and map/compass/gps), let alone climb a mountain.

The kit stays in my day pack and there's another in my trip pack.
