You get what you pay for, 500 down isn't as good as 600. Cheaper vests have duck down and/or feathers mixed in. I have an LL Bean Down Parka for extreme cold but I much prefer fleese vests, Bean's, Lands End or Eddie Bower will not selll you short on quality and all have 6oo vests for around $50 or less.

The product description implies that it is 650 goose down - unfortunately it does not come out and say that the 650 is the fill power but it is implied. The goose down part however is clearly stated.
