Well, we went light for the 6 days...19-25 miles a day. My normal pack minus my tent, as I cowboyed every night, and no food bag...friggin dream come true.

It was nice to be able to eat at Fast food joints in the morning and have Sandwhiches waiting at the end of the day.

I live in the area. I see people speed-walking around neighborhood sidewalks every morning with poles. I can't imagine what they need them for. I guess the local sidewalks are rougher than I thought.

Probably to beat off the dogs and old men who chase them... :)

He wasn't really using them; just kinda skimming the ground.

its a freeking addiction - after a while a hiker just doesn't know what to do if he doesn't have his poles with him

btw I recently went poleless from Dragon's Tooth to Tinker's Cliffs - in the end I regretted it and my left knee is still bitching about that decision - next time I'll use one pole :datz

So what about the rally in Richmond? What time/where is it? This Saturday? I live near Richmond and have plenty of friends in the area. I might just head out (by car of course) and join the fun.

It's a good cause and I'm glad to see people from all walks of life are getting involved. My mother has worked with an autistic child for years and he is like one the family because he's always around and it's amazing with me being away from home all the time when I see him how far he's advanced in his thinking and interactions with people around him, when I first met him he would act like nobody was around him all the time.

BTW, did you see those calf muscles? That's how I always (think I can) recognize another hiker.

Have you ever noticed that once ya got 'em they always come back really quick? I went about 6 months without a hike in '04 due to some stupid neuro stuff, and when I started back hiking in 01-05, the legs came back within weeks. It was quite a pleasant surprise.
