58 here at my house feels a lot better then the 90's it's been recently. But it will be wicked hot and humid again in a couple of days...

Cool. Hoping the winds for down a bit. Not anywhere near the AT, but going to try for Mt Isolation on Monday morning. Will hike in Sunday afternoon and spend the night. Nothing like a night in the wilderness...

Glad to see this report. Intended to post a similar one. Fortunately, the temp at Mt Washington's summit has warmed all the up to nearly 38 degrees F at 12:30 PM. (July??) Web cams are functional at Mts. Washington and near Katahdin.

This reminded me of warnings up and down the AT in 2006 when Hurricane Ernesto arrived. I was in eastern NY as weather forecasters attempted to predict the path of the storm. Everybody was hunkering down. Ernesto initially made landfall in Florida, blew back out into the Atlantic, and make landfall again in North Carolina. Ernesto continued north through VA and PA, blew over western NY and Lake Ontario, and eventually dissipated in Canada. We never even saw a cloud!

Best wishes to all hikers... safe, warm and dry.

Bookmark this thread. Dredge it up the next time we get one of those "I don't need a sleeping bag or tent to cross the Whites in July. Do I? A liner and a bivy will be ok, right?"

Amen to that, Wayne! Never mind the sleeping bag - you better have some line and anchors to hold yourself down to the mountain - like the Monty Python Meadow Climbers.

Just fine in the Lemi yesterday. Big moose at shoal pond. Sitting on the porch of the Mount Washington hotel looking at a perfectly clear
Presidential ridge line drinking my second Pigs Ear Ale, and waiting for my salad. NH is great.

Pretty breezy here in the valley today, bet it's really windy up above tree line. Otherwise, a fine day.

I'm in North Conway now going to the trailhead to climb Isolation - you can see clear standing lenticular clouds above the ridges - indicating the presence of a strong standing mountain wave - hopefully the wind will die down a bit overnight...

My first reply was gonna be "Damn, I wish I was there".

Then I remembered getting blown off of Franconia Ridge just as I finally reached the end and landing on my face.

So my reply will be "I'm glad I'm not there"

;)

We noticed them too, and was even moved to take a photo.

Well I'm a mile up the Rocky Branch Trail - 2.7 to the shelter - and it is beautiful here. Very little wind in the woods.

Talked to some other hikers on the way down - summit was blowing hard but they were able to cross...

Just finished the triple crown of eating our way home. After a couple days camping in the Pemi the first stop was lunch at the Mount Washington Hotel with desert. Then a stop at Woodstock Inn for desert #2. Then to complet the trifecta, nachos and ice cream at the Common Mann in Concord. Live free ( but not fat free) or die in NH.

Just a lot of rain and wind down here in RI. All that rain, and the car is still dirty!

Gorgeous in the Merrimack Valley today, but would have much preferred your location to ours, particularly when the day was spent pruning the rhododendrons and holly, lugging it into the woods, then cleaning out the garage. Cocktail hour now though, so all is good. :)

Ok ! Made the summit of Mt Isolation just now! We have cell service so it's not so isolated.

Still lots of black flies - not much wind - Mt Washington can be clearly seem.
