When in doubt, it is poison ivy.

I feel like the scoring should punish you more for a false negative on poison ivy than a false positive.

the only ones I missed was where you couldn't see enough of the plant.
it doesn't take too many rashes to get the correct identification fixed in the mind.
fun quiz

AMEN! I should've just said "Yes" to all of 'em. LOL I got 50/55. In the wild, I am happy to give a false positive and avoid the risk. Good quiz. I just spent two days this weekend hiking through the stuff (inadequate trail maintenance). Saturday in shorts, Sunday in long pants. My shins are itching and beginning to break out. I hate the stuff.

LOL I had the same thought! After taking that I'm shocked I've never gotten hit. Put I usually wear pants and stay on the trail so other than bathroom breaks I'm usually not interacting with too many plants.

I have no reaction to poison ivy, doesn't effect me at all, so I've never really bothered to look for it. In other words, I did not do fantastic on this quiz.

As much as I keep an eye out for it, I unfortunately picked some up while hiking the NET almost two weeks ago. Not sure if I got it, or my dog got it & transferred it. Hadn't had it in over a decade & now I hope to quadruple that next time. 2 weeks on my back, legs, ears, & arms... Miserable.

The picture included is the "healing" on my wrist... Because of its location, the skin is cracking. Definitely not enjoyable! http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/07/23/y9u2usuh.jpg

Back IN 1993 i was hiking with my Farther and the Mood struck so i hit the woods, wound up with a bad case on my butt cheeks, i never forgot what it looks like and NEVER forgot that situation, the Moral of this story is always take a good look around before you squat. and i got 55 out of 55.

Yes, oozing, but not at all like yours. That looks painful.

Well, there certainly aren't any sensations of tickling! Lol.

I still blame the dog for it, but who knows. Took over two days to start showing up, far too late to do anything about it!

Same score here. It's a wonder I have made it out of the woods unscathed all these times. Let me know where to sign up for that class!

49/55 for me, and I should have done better, considering that I've been watching out for PI ever since I was a wee one.

Had someone recently warn me not to tuck my poles under my arm or let them come in contact just in case they had brushed through some. Had never thought about getting it that way or from petting a dog. Good to keep in mind.

Heal soon Likeapuma. That definitely looks uncomfortable.

Unless you like to roll around in Hog-Peanut or Jack in the Pulpit, I wouldn't be too worried about getting some of these wrong. I don't think you can go wrong avoiding poison ivy and anything that looks like poison ivy.

Yes, coach, clear that stuff outta there! :)
We hiked NJ in May, and saw lots of poison ivy, lots of rocks, more poison ivy, more rocks. I'm sure it gets worse as the growing season progresses.

May have done better but got distracted. I'm rather hyper-allergic to it. May have to go to the Dr. for steroids if it gets too bad.

I can get it bad but I think my body goes through cycles over the years. I don't take chances with it as I take a homeopathic pill ahead of going out in the woods and if I rub up against some.
this works for me.....http://peoplesrx.com/shop/washington-homeopathic-rhus-tox-4x-poison-ivy-pills/

The worst way to get it is to toss some of the older stuff (The vine which wraps a tree) into a burn pile and suck in some of the smoke. Friend of mine missed two weeks work. Poison Ivy into the lung. Told me he did not think any vine with bark could be PI. Huge mistake. And that stuff is hard to kill also. Takes like 3 or 4 doses of Round-up.

DrRichardCranium

They really should put this quiz in visitor centers.

Mobius

Takes like 3 or 4 doses of Round-up.

The stuff in Round-up (glyphosphate) isn't as effective on poison ivy as some other herbicies like trichlorophenoxyacetic acid (triclopyr) which found in things like "Brush-B-Gone".

Of course that's no good in the woods where avoidance is key, but it's nice around the house.

I usually err on the side of "leaves of three let it be" when possible.

The stuff that fooled me is the wavy edged poison ivy. I've never seen that before. Is that the same as Poison Oak? Anyone know where the wavy edged poison ivy is found?

DrRichardCranium

Poison Ivy leaves can vary, even on the same plant. Sometimes the leaves have smooth even edges, sometimes they can be jagged or lobed. It is affected by local soil conditions.
