I'm not sure if this has been posted before or how old it is, But I saw it on Facebook and wanted to share.

(It looks like its accounting for a 25lb bag, and for an overnight not he florida trail. But still.)

cool outline, but looks a little outdated, for example, most hikers carry water bottles (64 oz. gatoraid bottles) on the outside, but hey, it still gives some good ideas.

Weight distribution theory has not changed. Maybe those Gatoraid bottles are in the wrong place. Who decreed Gatoraid bottles in the first place? Just because " Everybody does it." Does not make it right. Like Crocs too.

Thanks Ricky.

I saw that type of diagram in the '70's. I think :-? Colin Fletcher did something similar in "The Complete Walker" when he spread out all his gear on a blanket for a photo.

The diagram is great guidance if you are still using an external frame pack, but most UL's will run away screaming in terror  if they had to pack all the stuff shown! :)

number 24 is a foam pad.... look how small it is.... and apparently it "fits" facing front/back..... meaning its a 6inch wide pad. lol

Yes, and #26 is a result of what happens when a fella fresh outta mommy and daddys house does his first town stop to do laundry....shrinkage ain't just about swimmin' holes anymore.

Thanks for posting that! This caught my eye: "Carry no more than 30% of your body weight." That's about 60 lbs for me - my back hurts just thinking about it!

But for my sleeping bag, I don't think I ever pack the same...for the most part. I still follow the rules of weight distribution, try to anyway. But when I wake in the morning I put things I may need for the day, and that can change from day to day, hour to hour.

Yup, thanks for postin'...that is likely the pictorial we all followed many moons ago...and I'm sure some still do it pretty similar.

It's probably in his pocket so he doesn't think he has to count it as weight...anything for an oz. it's a sickness. :D

#6 Stove fuel.

I've never been comfortable carrying fuel (I assume white gas) inside of my packs.

Even when I used a Nalgene fuel bottle.

Not even with #10 underneath it to catch what ever spills from over pumpin' and #26 and 32 to suck up the rest? Me neither...I used wood they don't leak as bad. But when I did get my first white gas stove back Nineteen hundred and 78' it went in one of the the side pouches.

I've never carried my sleeping bag attached on the outside. Trowel? Also I keep rain gear up top or in back pocket. Looks nothing like my load.

I pack mine so that everything fits well, damn the weight distribution!...Quilt and pad at bottom with stove and alite chair shoved down along side them, clothes bag and food bag on top of them...fill in gaps with pillow, toiletries etc. Tent strapped to outside bottom rear of pack. This method also allows me and my wife to pack the sleeping gear in our packs as soon as we wake up, eat breakfast by the fire with our friends, and roll up and pack the tent last.
