Hey guys, I'm planning on doing part of the AT in 2015 but I'm going to skip the first 600-700 miles (starting somewhere around Pearisburg VA or maybe start out with Dragon's Tooth) because I live in Blacksburg and figure it's the easiest thing to do. Does any one have suggestions on when to start? I was thinking the last week in March/first week in April but I'm worried it'll still be way too cold. Thanks for the help!

And by "part of the AT", I meant VA to ME, NoBo

March/April is way too early. You should know that living in that area.

I agree with Lone Wolf on this one, early May. Just hope it isn't cold and rainy for the whole month like it was the last time I did VA in May...

I did VA in April/May SOBO and after freezing in Shenandoah (some days had highs in the low 30s) I sent my down coat home at Pearisburg, only to face more cold weather all the way to Damascus. Faced two unusually violent storms (tornados!). But it is doable at that time, no problem. You won't be alone.
