What's the best breed of dog for carrying weight for 40-50 miles per day?

Are you serious? Outside of a few breeds built for hauling sleds (SMS might be helpful here), I don't think there are too many dogs capable of puting in 40-50 mile days, and certainly not day after day after day, and certainly not with lots of elevation gain tossed in. Humans will outpace almost any other creature on earth in the long, and 40-50 miles a day over a month or two is certainly at the very high end of endurance.

But, maybe this was just a joke or something.

my dog WHITE FANG aka goober aka guni'vere

would have NO problem carrying one third his body weight (55 lbs)
40 or 50 miles a day.

myself on the other hand have no interest in hiking 40-50 miles a day ....maybe I should loan WF to Chris, who can and does hike 40-50 mile days ;)

I hope this is a joke, but I will treat it as if it is not. There are very few good reasons to subject a dog to going 40-50 miles a day, even if, and this is a big if, the dog is capable of it. That is something that would be very hard on any human, and it is something that should be a conscientious choice to do. Making a dog do that, IMO, would borderline cruelty. Keep in mind though, I am no expert. If you are concidering this, I am not sure this is the right forum to discuss such matters, unless we have people who are capable of giving qualified information on the capabilities of a dog. Oh well, my 2 cents is that I wouldnt subject my dog, or any dog of mine, to that. It is all good.
