Appalachian Films to watch Pre-Hike

I just ordered three films ( I looked at a list of recommended films, I think there were ten or so, and I picked three that I wanted to watch). 'Trek', 'National Geographics-The Appalachian Trail' and 'Appalachian Impressions'. All three are great to watch. I wasn't disappointed with any of them. I'm still watching the last one, Appalachian Impressions, which has two discs. I've watched the first disc and the second one I will watch tonight. This one is the one I'm really enjoying since the film crew takes you on the entire hike, state by state. There are short interviews with other hikers, a good impression of what it will be like to get wet and hike wet, etc. The Host of the film has already hiked the AT and is now hiking the AT, with a film crew and buddies, in order to bring a sense of what it is like to hike the trail the entire length. I've only seen these three and like I said, I enjoyed all of them.

And actually, I would probably like any film on the AT in order to fulfill my thirst and let's just say it...jones for the trail.

Ha ha. I knew about that film even before I ever saw it. Everytime I traveled and someone would always ask where I was from. When they found out I was from the Appalachians they would always quote that movie or ask if I had ever seen it. So one day thirty years later when I didn't have anything else to do, I rented it just to see what the hullabaloo was all about. I was seriously disappointed. It was most definitely a 70's movie. Chase scenes with the 70's background music to lend drama, the very exaggerated banjo scene, etc. No one remembers anything from the movie except the two quotes. "you got a purty mouf", and "Squeal like a pig".

Funny thing, I watched Deliverance on network TV when I was about twelve years old. It was so heavily censored for broadcast that I didn't even get why people thought the movie was disturbing.

Had you had seen it in the 70's I think you would have a different opinion of it...pretty edgy for it's time, dealing with not only social and invironmental issues, but life styles. Kinda one of the films that paved a way for other greats of the 70's

There is a scene in flip flop flippin 2 where they pull a tiny tick off someone's back--saw that in the trailer and I cringed. Looks really good though!

It was about a fella who was pissed at the government for the position on environmental issues in a time when environmental issues were at the for front of discussion. he was the HERO. o'coarse one guy has to die in film, and the other two were representative of (like most people) sitting of their hands and not really knowing what goin on in government, or caring, and what happens to you when you fall into this trap, you get it slid to you by....who else, the hillbilly boys=the GOVERENMENT in this instance.

Not an AT movie, but 180 South is pretty good as far as the adventure aspect is concerned.
