I've seen a lot of pack lists for thru hikes, Don't think I've seen one for a short hike.
I live in St. Louis so I'll do short hikes in the Ozarks.
I thought of some things like :
no tent, no rain in the last 2 weeks none expected, cowboy camping. no rain gear. what about bugs.
same for warm clothes, has not been below 70* even at night for 3 weeks.
smaller , lighter pack.
might be tempted to bring the 3 kilo accordion, bulky.
prepared meals
Your thoughts appreciated!!

The weight of the accordion will counterbalance the weight of your pack - great idea!

In September in the Rockies, after the monsoon and first freeze (no bugs), I've gone out for solo fifty-milers with my down quilt and nearly nothing else but a few sandwiches, a bag of oats, and some nuts and raisins.

Generally, though, my pack for short trips tends to be a little heavier than for thru hikes. My short trips tend to be more social (or spousal) so I'll have more forms of entertainment and comfort, usually liquid. On thru hikes, I get really serious about the trip and about what I carry.
