The Wonderland Trail, around Mt. Rainier, has become so popular that getting a permit is difficult. I have done a number of day hikes on the Wonderland this summer and it has been really crowded. For those who can't get a permit for the Wonderland Trail, and those who want to avoid the big crowds I have a alternate to suggest. The PCT through the Goat Rocks Wilderness is a very similar hike -- fantastic views.
Start at FR115 and hike north to US 12. You won't cross a road of any kind, not even a logging road, for 41 miles. You can view pictures from my hike at http://www.davemcclung.com
