I like to sleep in lightweight merino layers, too, but I bring a Cap 4 pullover to supplement when it's cold, or layer my down jacket over my torso inside the bag.

I usually hike in my cap 4 exped wt hoodie...my dog gets my down jacket as quilt so I'll try some merino as have only used in socks...

What kind of sleeping pad are you using? The pad is more important to staying warm than either the bag or the undies, in my experience.
