Black flies, bugs in Maryland

Hello,

I am planning a trip to the Maryland section of the AT in the spring. I have read that mid-April to mid-June is the best time to hike before summer. I'm thinking of going in mid-May. Have others had problems with black flies, mosquitoes, bugs at that time of year?

I hiked in early spring a couple of years ago and didn't notice any bug problem according to my notes. Maryland was beautiful and we were lucky to have perfect weather. Life is good on the trail.....Swamp Dawg
