It isn't free but 2.95 to the ATC isn't a bad thing

Here's your map (http://http://www.atctrailstore.org/catalog/iteminfo.cfm?itemid=136&compid=1)

Got one framed on my wall, good discussion piece

Should have checked the link before I put it in.

Go Back to www.atconf.org.

Goto the Trail Store

Look under Posters, Decals, Calendars.

Then Poster Maps

Trail Dog,try the ATC store at www. atctrailstore.org. or call 888-AT STORE. Map is 3.50$ for non-members and measures 9 1/2 " X 48". Item # is 400. Good luck.

They sell em at Amicolola and at Walasi-Yi (Neels Gap). I've got 2 of them. One is framed in glass and hanging in my wife's office at the unversity to commemorate her 2001 thru. The other one is mounted on gel-board and hanging in the living room. We glue little creatures and other stuff to puch pins and keep track of hikers on that one.

Your choices are:

$32.50 for a laminated/mounted map (it's nice, I have one in our house)

$3.00 or so for a paper map.

Free brochure pubished by the NPS and sometimes found at places like REI and other outfitters along the way.

For what it's worth, we put a mylar overlay over the poster, and wrote dates on it every time I called home next to the location. I still look back on it when I need to recall dates.

I have the laminated/mounted map hanging in my office. As a frustrated cartography, I love the interesting projection that fits the entire Trail on an 8" wide x 4' tall slice. I'm always amazed at how many people ask me about the AT.

wouldnt it be cool for an interactive map showing where the Whiteblaze Thru's are currently on the trail.....
something for some serious HTML programmers to think about?

Hey Trail Dog, I bought one at Delaware Water gap but also got a free one at the Georgia welcome center on I-85 S.C. side. If you are ever in the area..

Way beyond my abilities. The cool place for that would actually be at TrailJounals.com. Imagine having a progress chart based on location of entry for each day. I guess it could be done with a php where php?=mile point.

For Christmas this year Kodiak and I gave both of our parents a map to follow our progress. We ordered the maps from the ATC, but didn't want to pay the "big" bucks to get it already mounted. Instead, Kodiak went to a couple of stores and got pieces of disgarded cardboard. We glued two pieces together and bought little pieces of trim and made a frame. This way, our parents could use push pins to follow us along. It was a cheap answer to hanging, framing and displaying the map. I must say, my dad pulls it out to show every person who enters their house. I actually think he is warming up to the idea!
