recommendation for rain jacket and pants

I know that with the title alone I'm going to get a lot of opinions. That is what I want.

I will be more specific. I'm looking for the above for the fall winter spring season. In the summer I just get wet. It is a better alternative many times.

I have used frogg togg ultrlight 2's for a couple of years and I'm getting more holes in them than I need. When it is sleeting in the fall/winter/ spring I want to be dry.

Any recommendations? I have looked at Marmot precip jacket and zip pants for these seasons. My toggs I will personalize by making shorts and a short sleeve jacket to get some breath ability.

I know you can spend a great bit of dough on these items. I'm looking to frugal..... I guess as much as I can be.

I have been looking at Items at steep and cheap as well.

Any info is greatly appreciated and very welcome.

You can get the Marmot Precip gear on Sierra Trading Post pretty cheap if you sign up for their mailing list and use a good coupon.

Colter, a very experienced hiker, swears by the Red Ledge Thunderlight gear. I've used their gear in the past and still have a pair of their pants. Seems to work well esp for the price.

I would offer a Packa as a jacket. I find it the best all around rain protection I have found and used.

I have yet to find my ultimate pant for cold weather rain. I hope ideas come about.

I'm looking for rain gear for 40's. 30's
Criteria is that it is waterproof.
has some kind of pit zips of breathability.

Has anyone used The marmot ones I have mentioned? How about MG plasmic?

I have used the Marmot Precip for several trips now in moderate to heavy rain and have been very pleased. They work well and are vented as well as any other comparable rain gear. The price is also not too bad and you can often find last years colors and models at discounted prices.

I like "rain chaps" for ultimate rain protection, yet, they ventilate. If you don't like the fabric used in pre-made rain chaps, they are possibly the easiest to DIY/MYOG except, possibly, a "kilt".

The Marmot "Minimalist" is a little more expensive than the Precip, but an even better jacket with Gore-Tex, Paclite fabric. It's more durable too.

The Outdoor Research "Foray" line is comparable. (Gore-Tex and Paclite)
I have the Marmot Minimalist jacket and the OR Foray pants.
