This isn't of the scale usually discussed here. It's a 3.5 mile walk along the Rhode Island Sound along the Atlantic coast. The sound is on one side and uber rich people's houses on the other. It's a public right of way across some public, some private property. There are many photo ops of both the houses and coastline.

The pathway is variously paved, carefully placed flat rock and uneven rocks. The first mile is advertised as paved. Not that bad on the uneven rocks, no scrambling just careful walking. The cliff portions have fence or walls to protect against falls. The way is obvious - the sound is always along side - and there are medallions on the rock portions to show the recommended way across them.

There are pay parking areas at the north end and at several roads along the path. There are portalets and a water fountain about a mile from the north end. Beyond that there aren't any services along the walk, take a water bottle. After about a mile and a half there's no more access until the end.

I did the 7 mile round trip in 3.5 hours, outbound in 2 hours (slowed by others who dropped off) and back in 1.5 hours. We left a car at the end of the easy portion and one at the northern end.

Newport is a very nice town, plenty of history, restaurants, etc.

My wife and I did the Cliff Walk a couple of years back when I wanted to show her some nicer parts of my home state. It was a nice little stroll.

Thought I'd turn you up. RI is a pretty nice state from what I've seen. With a daughter in Boston (here tomorrow) I find myself in New England more.

I was there once and didn't even know it. We toured one of the mansions...Vanderbilt summer cottage I think (cottage my arse) It was awesome. I liked the library with wood and leather inlaid panels, full book shelves to the ceiling, hunter green colors and gold sconces. The surrounding grounds were just as impressive with some exotic botany, and o'coarse the the cliff walk. I look forward to going back and walking it one day.

This was supposed to be one of the walks on our RI Ramble Weekend....which was unfortunately cancelled due to scheduling conflicts. Snacktime and I have made the trek a time or two. We follow it to the very end...a beach at the end of Bellevue Ave...then walk back along that road to Easton's Beach where we usually park the car. I makes a +/- 9 mile loop starting from the beach.

Walked all the way across that private beach to the end - no members there today. The small public beach adjacent is known as the Rejects Beach.

I clicked to see it since I love trip reports, but your FB setting is on private so it isn't available to view. Maybe post it here?

My wife and I did this several years ago while docked in Newport on a New England/Canadian cruise. It was the highlight of the trip for us.

Sorry, I'll fix it. It's not really a trip report....just pics and comments.

Whenever I am down that way I like to go to the Nordic Lodge and get the seafood buffet. Pricey but yummy!
