I really like hiking down the trail through masses of Bigleaf magnolia(Magnolia macrophylla) leaves. These are the HUGE leaves that almost resemble brown lunch bags that can reach more than 30" in length. When the brown leaves are hanging in the tres it looks like the forest is littered with paper garbage bags.

Had a friend who came in from Colorado a few Fall seasons ago. Our sycamore was shedding it's leaves, the size of basketballs. They said their kids had never seen deciduous sycamore leaves before...I told em they could take all they wanted....they did take a couple back home to press.

One of my favorite memories from my thru was hiking on a series of old wood roads in eastern Vermont in October. The fallen leaves were so thick that we walked knee deep in them for miles and noise was deafening - impossible to carry on a conversation with the guy walking next to you without shouting.
