You might consider synthetic, or heavy fleece.

Montbell has a store in Switzerland (http://en.montbell.jp/shop/overseas/grindelwald/) and they carry down pants.

My Goosefeet Gear down socks have been great. If I ever buy down pants, I will be ordering from Goosefeet Gear.

Try Blue Ridge Mountain Outfitters and Woodlands Edge both right in the main square of downtown Dahlonega, GA if you're looking for somewhere you can walk into.

I'm having trouble seeing down pants as a good purchase for getting on the AT in March/April. As Squeezebox said, a baselayer should be perfectly adequate.

Yeah thanks for that, but they will be used in the UK ,and everything is cheaper in the States.Actually it works out roughly a pound for a dollar, eg., whatever costs 100pounds here costs 100dollars there so quite a saving.
