Is it possible to "Search" a genre, like "backpacking" or "outdoors"?

Sure is. Just go to Amazon, click on Shop by Department (upper left corner), and select Kindle Readers and Ebooks. Then Kindle books, and type in your search parameters. On the right, you can sort the list for Low to High to find the freebies.

In my iPod Touch, instead of flipping thru book pages at Amazon online, I can download "samples".
