I think that NPR did an interview with Cheryl Strayed. Also sounded like someone has written a book about Grandma Gatewood. They interviewed that author also. I did not hear much of either as my ex-wife was yelling at our son. I'm going to the NPR web site to see if I can find it.

Someone did indeed do a book about Grandma Gatewood.
Grandma Gatewood's Walk by Ben Montgomery My local library had it and it was a quick good read. Grandma Gatewood had a back story like Strayed's. She was apparently in a very abusive marriage for a long time and finally separated from her husband several years before she did her walk. I found it more interesting as a story than Strayed's.

I just finished Grandma Gatewood's Walk... It was a hard book to put down. Montgomery weaves a great story about her incredible thru hike. First woman to complete a thru. And, at the age of 67.

She eventually did 2 thru hikes and a full AT section hike. And walked the Oregon Trail!

A fascinating story about a great ambassador for hiking.
