I have been day hiking the desert around Lordsburg, NM. I am impressed. I was rarely out of sight of a fiberglass CDT sign. And the water boxes are worth a visit in their own right. They are massive steel boxes set in large concrete slabs. Someone has sunk some serious time and money into the CDT here. Nice job! Of course the scenery is stunning and the weather perfect in winter. And I didn't see a single blow-down or have to crawl under a single rhododendron. :) angel Apple

New Mexico is great, and quite diverse with 7000' of elevation gain between the border and Mt Taylor.

No oversize tires full of bugs and slime, then?

Do they still have the multitude of marked routes? The route from the border to Rte. 9 that was posted in 2006 was changed a year or two later, but when we drove the area in 2008, we saw signposts for both routes. I thought it might get pretty confusing, especially since the old route went past water but I think the new route bypassed at least one of the wells.
