After trying to choke down some hot dinner meals while on a recent "too hot to eat hot food" Florida Trail hike, I was determined to try a find an acceptable cold water alternative than roughly meets the 130 cal/oz of these delish meals: http://www.rei.com/product/510121/mountain-house-granola-with-milk-and-blueberries-2-servings I wanted something lightweight that also feels like a meal, not the trail mix/dry snack foods that I munch on all day.

The answer......

THIS (http://www.amazon.com/Peak-Whole-Milk-Powder-900-Grams/dp/B004K0862K) at 142 cal/oz + this website (http://nutritiondata.self.com/foods-008001000000000000000-1w.html) to get your faves!

The formula.....

500 ml water (standard "wally world water bottle" I always scrunch-n-carry)
+
2.5 ounces of powdered milk (355 calories)
+
3.5 ounces of your favorites cereal (on website they list by 100 grams. 100 grams = 3.527 ounces)
=
a 6 ounce meal that's easy to make, edible to eat, and fits in a sandwich sized ziplock. Just add water!!

No mess, no garbage (well, okay, a baggie), and about $2 a meal. What's not to love!

My personal fave:

Cinnamon Toast Crunch 778 calories per 6 ounces = 130cal/oz

SWEET!

*Disclaimer*

I haven't actually tried the powdered milk yet. If people seem interested, I'll update post after milk arrives.
