What are some good hiking pants for summer weather? Very lightweight, very breathable. I want to get some so I can treat with permethrin to keep ticks off me.

Get Exofficio convertible pants. Very light & dries fast. They have them already treated with permethrin that last 80 washes. This advise comes from someone who hikes in Florida in the summer.

Kuhl Kontra pants are what I have. I too like long pants, regardless of the temps.

I use "fishing" pants as they have all of the traits above (sun protection, fast drying, bug protected) with the benefit of neat pockets and they can be found cheaper at a larger variety of stores.

I like any "chinos" made of nylon supplex. I call them my "walk dry" pants, I wear for truly hot weather that has rain showers.

I have railriders ecomesh i wear out west for sun protection. Its really uncomfortably humid to wear long pants on at in summer, but ive done it in late spring OK just as a test.

Montane Terra's here.
Tough, lightweight, dry quickly, side zips for ventilation and really comfortable

Columbia, REI, or EMS house brand convertible pants, whoever has the lightest fabric I can find at the time. I rarely use long pants in weather over 70*, using high concentrate DEET to keep the tics and other bugs at bay. In deep summer I will use Nike shorts with liner pretty much exclusively.

Kuhl Renegade shorts. They are available as pants but, my legs are too sexy to hide.:) They are stretchy yet durable, the pockets are close to perfect and they look good on the trail or in town.

Be aware, a lot of places don't stock summer zip off type pants in the winter. I had a heck of a time finding some in stock several years ago.

LL Beans makes a number of models. Here's one that's on sale now: Men's ExOfficio Ziwa Convertible Pants with Insect Shield. I use the shorts and the long pants, but haven't tried the convertible ones yet.

I wore fishing pants for almost the entire hike last year. Fishworks was the brand I used, though they are just light weight nylon pants, I'm sure any brand will do. I also recommend hitting your boot tops and sock tops with deet every morning before you get going. Ticks are no laughing matter and Lyme definitely made it's way through the files last year, no doubt about that!

Very subjective, but I like to go with convertible pants. Choose the kind that fit you best. Good thinking on the tick issue.

EMS convertible pants are nice and light, with LOTS of pockets. Also quick drying.
