Fill in the blank.....

I went for a trailrun and my camel back tube froze in 10 minutes. My poor dog got out of the car and looked at me like:eek: She's from Rhodesia and doesn't dig this cold weather. I had a sweater on her and once she started running she had a blast, as usual...

I never seem to justify getting sub 20 degree running gear and always regret it when I'm imitating a hamster in winter...

Just busting your chops. The first 1.5 mi was painful, but once I warmed up it wasn't too bad. I had on a lightweight wool top under a Marmot dri climb windshirt. I actually got a tad too warm by the end.

Running involves breathing more deeply.

You did not say, how cold.

I have coughed up chunks of frozen bits of lungs, once, breathing only slightly more deeply in Montana winter.

Maybe it would be a good thing to trust the dog?

Temp. in Stanhope was 1 degree at 7:00 am. I ran in temps like this about 13 years ago: I discovered I had asthma, but only at low temps. Down comforters are great on mornings like this. Oh, I'm 70.

Let's just say that below 20 degrees, especially with wind, certain parts of my anatomy feel vulnerable if I'm out for more than 30 minutes, even with running tights, underwear, running shorts over the tights, and a bandana strategically thrown in for good measure. There are wind barrier products out there but I've been too cheap to buy them since it rarely gets that cold where I live.

Minus 18 this morning on my front porch. It was so cold that when I called my dog, the words froze in the air and I had to pick them up and bring them into the house so that they would thaw out and he could hear them. Ten, because they were indoors and he was out, that didn't work By that time has was so cold he was knocking at the storm door to get back in anyway. I love Maine winters!

Wierd, my iPhone did the same thing on my run. Seem like Apple would have a "Too Cold" error message.

What was your setup last night? And did you stay toasty?

Zpacks Hexamid Duplex and their 10º bag (the fear i'm packing is COLD). Toasty and warm inside the bag. I tried a cheap grocery store sleeping bad with probably a zero R-value so and due to the lack of cushioning kept tossing and turning to comfort my hips. Neoair from here on out! I DO have to figure out how to keep my face warm though. And how to deal with breathing freezing cold air.

It was so cold this morning... something in the ABS of my Subaru froze so the ABS light lit up. Next, something in the gas line froze. I had to abandon my 1995 Subaru Outback.

Fortunately, two Mormon missionary senior citizens helped, taking me home. They promised to return tomorrow morning to find out if tomorrow morning is warm enough for thawing out. If not, maybe they would help Sunday? I suppose I could ask

Who will comment: only if I accompany them to church?

That isn't nice to say. But I couldn't resist. It is all so ironic and funny.

They are strangers here and they are the most friendly people around.

I do hope abandoning my car, my car will not come to harm.

That's when you finish the run with frozen hands because the gloves have been pressed into other service.

Odd concurrence but on my last trip I wrote the following in my precious trip report---Day 7, February 6 2015---

IT WAS SO COLD THAT I WROTE THIS IDIOCY---

When it happens it happens and digging a cathole in frozen ground is never fun but it was done and then holding my fishing license in one hand and toilet paper in the other I pulled a quick squat-catch and release into the cold soil of Citico wilderness.

Unfortunately once the angry turd left my body it froze solid and I was stuck bunghole to cathole tight to the ground and had to hack myself free with a hatchet. A glancing blow almost severed my nutsac but I got away free or at least I thought I did but part of the effluvia hitched a ride on my crocs and quickly scrambled up my left leg and entered my down parka where it sits now lodged against my sternum and very close to my heart, the beating of which it considers its mother home and fecal headquarters.

It too pulsated rhythmically and soon I had a small marimba orchestra in my jacket and knew if I took another dump we'd have congas and a cowbell.
