View Full Version : Best inexpensive pack in the 60 liter range
I've been using the Osprey Viva 50. My husband and I are hoping to hike the Colorado Trail this summer, and I think I'd like a little more capacity. What's a good value pack in the 60-65 liter range? What's the best under $200 and under 4.5 lbs?

check out the REI Flash that's right around 62 liters. Fairly light, right , nice and comfy, get it with your spring 25% off coupon, regular price is $189

Very happy with my Flash 62. Also have a Flash 45 that is just as good.
Excellent price if you can get them while on sale, and very comfortable packs.
Thanks for the replies should've said I'm a female using my husbands new profile. We're both interested in newer, slightly larger packs. We'll definitely check out the REI packs!

Definitely check out the women's REI Flash then. You might also look at Granite Gear and Osprey women's packs.

The REI Flash is often on sale or you can use a member coupon on their holiday sales. It's a decent pack.
Granite Gear Crown V.C. 60 and Granite Gear V.C. 60 KI $199

REI has their membership dividend and membership sales. Amazon often has a lower price. Big stores have sales plus coupons, if you sign up with an email address.
January sales and a coupon netted me 67% off the price of two expensive items sold by Sierra Trading Post, yesterday, a first page "hit" at Google Search. Like that.
This is an excellent pack for lightweight backpacking, comfortable to carry a few lumpy items. The back panel helps avoid sweat on your back.
If you have soft gear, Equinox ARAS Eagle Pack is silnylon and other excellent materials, an excellent design, reasonably durable with good packing technique and reasonable care. $134

I would wrap a small stove.
50-liters, the mesh panel pocket adds more capacity.
This was my favorite backpack of many years, stolen. I keep hoping for the beetle black and cattail brown color, my favorite. This pack is frequently sold out.

Gossamer Gear makes good packs for a good price and they often go on sale. I recently bought a G4 for $80. They're generally made for lighter loads.

Out of all my packs my favorite is the 60 liter Exponent from Colemen. It's totally water proof... The biggest thing with picking a pack is that it has to fit your frame. ;)

Indeed. I got my Flash 62 as a 'Special Buy' last May and paid $129.73.
