Ninety POUNDS of chocolate?? That makes no sense.

it only makes sense when you realize they were baiting the area.....

my guess also (at least i hope) is that somehow they had a chocolate "connection" and got it for free as opposed to actually buying that large amount.........

Turkey hill located in PA had a ice cream named death by chocolate, could get it in Nj, had to cross the bridge...it was a pretty serious dose of chocolate.

Apparently this is common practice among those who bait and ambush bears in NH (and presumably other States). NH Fish and Game are considering banning chocolate as bait now. You'd have thought there would've been more attention to chocolate, a known toxin to many animals and young bears, by game management professionals. This is the kind of stuff that makes it difficult to justify baiting.

You would have thought they'd use any number of other food items. Old lunch meats would have worked just fine.

I bet it was cooking chocolate. Poor bears.

Wouldn't have got me! I typically can't stand chocolate.

That would have been some sweet meat.

In Maine it's legal to hunt bears with bait, dogs and traps. The only State that allows all three. The numbers of pounds of donuts placed in the woods is amazing, like in the millions. They set up feeding spots, put up a webcam and when a bear is habituated, they know the time a place and go out and shoot it. We just had a second referendum to ban this and, once again, it was rejected. This is not proper game management. The donuts are a major food source that results in increased fecundity. It's management for out-of-state hunters. I'm not against hunting but this is not hunting as I understand it.

Sounds like they were baiting Homer Simpson and got bears instead.

I dont agree with bear baiting it is a practice for lazy hunters like shooting fish in a barrel
