I have experience with Psolar EX that had something like it. I rinsed it out one time, under running water. That was it. It worked perfectly. Now, I have the ThermaWrap Half Mask and the Full Head Cover. If I replace those, I would purchase the Cold Avenger Pro model, because it is wind resistant or windproof, the fleece is not. In town, I would wear a Turtle Fur or a Buff.
It helps, greatly, to prewarm in-breath with out-breath warmth. My core temperature is easily maintained. I feel warmer. My lungs were protected from -40 F actual ambient temperature, so far.
I like the fact these devices keep condensation from my breath off my down sleeping bag, down quilt and down gear and almost off the inside of my tarp or tent shelter. I can still get condensation on the inside of tarp or tent shelter, if there is a heavy dew, of course, I select a location to avoid.
