A Walk in the Woods was screened at Sundance the other day, the first review is out with the reviewer giving it a negative review and slamming the movie:

The last thing Redford has done of any note is the "Natural" baseball movie, while it was very good, Redford's style of acting (if you could call it that) is a yawn at best. Nick as "Katz" could be very interesting and if done well ....should get him an Oscar nod.
Redford serves the viewing public best by paying the bills as a producer and letting people with real talent do the movie making.
Redford is a second rate actor at best and has never shown a speck of knowledge as a director.
I fear that the great trail book penned by Mr. Bill Bryson will suffer. :-?

Wow, that looks terrible... Like the one site says in the book they are around 44 - not in their 70s. So much of what I enjoyed about the book was Bryson's writing and the way he told the story. The story itself was somewhat uninteresting. But like the review calls it I don't have much desire to watch "Grumpy Old Outdoorsmen". Hopefully that one clip is not indicative of what the rest of the movie is like.

I have to disagree HikeHunter. I am not a fan of his deadpan acting style, but he has proven himself a capable Director. 'A River Runs Through It' was a great movie. There were others, but I thought that was his best.

Probably better for the trail to have Redford / Nolte than Bradley Cooper and Cumberbatch.

I guess you haven't seen "All is lost" that or you are biased.

You can argue about his greatness as actor , his sublime characterizations are not going to wow u, but as a director, Ordinary People, A river Runs Through it, and Quiz Show were all off the charts great. That said, I think I will hate this movie, but I will give it a chance despite Nolte's overacting in the trailer

All is lost was a very good movie. I am looking forward to more reviews of A Walk in the Woods but Redford looks ancient in the video clip and Nolte is clearly overacting his part.

I'm just excited. It may not be a blockbuster, but lets be honest: We relatively few passionate AT enthusiasts don't merit the budget for a blockbuster film. Lets just be happy it was made at all and enjoy it for the entertainment that it is. When we want the "real trail experience", we'll hit the trail.

While the film is a niche movie at best, I think it has a decent chance to get mainstream popularity if marketed correctly.
