Titanium is cheap today, relatively speaking. $8.60 /lb.

The expense comes from the limited production of items made from it, not the base metal cost.

25 years ago, titanium metal was more expensive, relatively speaking, almost an exotic metal, like zirconium, tantalum, etc. Today its quite common.. Ti is one of the most abundant elements on earth, its just a bear to extract.

I didnt bother to read article, Ti isnt strong, its quite flexy. Its just stronger than Aluminum.

I have the titanium intake valves and connecting rods from a Z06 Corvette sitting here. Valves have 48,000 miles on them and look and measure new.

My ring retailed for $105. Since titanium rings cant be resized, I bought two of them in different sizes. The ring from the ceremony sits in a jewelery box and the spare which fits me better gets worn around.

I went with at TI since it is the toughest metal commonly used for weddingbands that is still able to be cut with the tools that an average jeweler or Emergency room would have on hand...last thing I want is to break a finger and then not be able to have the ring removed for treatment.

The official state rock of RI is Cumberlandite. It has a high percentage of Titanium in it. I can get some. How do I extract the Titanium? :confused: :D
