Looking for old very inexpensive ammunition cannisters that I can use to cache food on extended backpacking trips (30 days). PM me if you have some. If you're in the NY area, I can drive to you. Otherwise, can pay for shipping. Thanks

Go to your local army surplus store. They should have plenty

Here is where I've gotten them in the past. Never tried to use them caching food.

Why not just use a five gallon bucket? Probably because they are to big to bury and hide. They stand out like a sore thumb

What a great idea! You can make this anywhere from 4" to 12" diameter.

Lots of great ideas here-if you want to buy a ammo can, I would suggest your local Bass Pro Shop, they have some nice ammo cans that are plastic and can hold bulky items. Pretty good price as well.
