Does anyone know where to get good weather info for the smokies? NOAA used to have good info but the link is broken. Trying to find something that will give me an idea of cold the shelters will be.

I haven't looked for awhile but gathered info last year on this.

Try sophiaknows.com. Maybe it will give you the info you seek.

I have great faith in the highly localized and elevation-sensitive forecasts by Ray's Weather (www.raysweather.com) based in Boone, NC. Ray's farthest southwest reporting station is Waynesville, but their forecasts for the NC-TN state line from the northern part of the Smokies all the way into southwest VA are excellent. If not a primary guide to Smokies forecasts, Ray's is worth keeping on the list.

A walk in the woods shuttle service has the weather for the actual park including precip and any that may be on the ground. It is the same weather they post in the ranger station.

weather.gov should cover you pretty much anywhere. Get close via city name or zip code and then click/drag the map to specific locations. The current conditions will always come from the nearest reporting station but the forecast will be based on your requested location taking into account elevation to forecast temperatures and wind speeds.

They won't be able to do better than calling someone local but definitely worth checking with them before heading out.

This is a weather website someone just created for the AT. It was posted on one of the FB pages. It gives you the weather at each shelter. http://www.atweather.org/
He is creating an app for this as well. Check it out!

Call the Backcountry Ranger desk at the Park??????????????????????
Potential for ice fog overnight along and west of the NC-TN border.
Otherwise, for Feb, March & part of April. Take your pick:
Cold
Cold & Wet
Cold & Wet & Windy
Cold & Wet & Windy & Snowing
Cold & Wet & Windy & Snowing & Icy.
None of the above have ever been found in Florida. You are in for many surprises.
Have fun!

I like this one: http://www.mountain-forecast.com/

It has been as good as any for trips in the Wind River Range, Sequoia National Park, and in GSMNP. It not only covers the US, but mountains all over the world. Just type in Clingmans Dome in the "Find a Mountian" box, then click on the Forecast for the desired elevation to get the 6 day forecast.
