I have been waiting for the temp. to come up a little before I go on a hike in PA near Pine Grove. Looks like Saturday will be in the 20's and 30's. How much snow is on the trail in this area near PA 501 / PA 183?

It is snowing now in that area. It is also expected to be snowy Saturday and rainy Sunday. There has been a number of snow events lately. I haven't been on the trail in a couple of weeks but would expect continuous snow based on what in my yard in the valley.

From the looks of the weather map, it will be down right miserable everywhere along the AT for a while. You might want to wait a month - or two.

A month or two? If it is in the 20's and the snow is not too deep, I am all in.

I live about 50 miles south of the trial so not sure but my guess would be around 3-4". I hope to continue south from Pearisburg as soon as the weather improves a little. Hoping it's not one or two months. I'll be around the area at least through the 26th and would be glad to shuttle you or pick you up if you would need to bail. Call if interested (717) 278-6717

I drove through that area last weekend on my way to a weekend trail trip in Virginia. Yes there is snow in the area (looked liked at that time maybe 6") but if you are expecting it you can be prepared. I scanned the trail as it heads out of Swatara Gap and there were no footprints in the snow at that time.
