Does anyone know where there is a listing online of all the hostels that are near the AT?:datz

I don't know if anyone's ever posted just a hostel list...however, you can find comprehensive hostel information in the On-Line version of the Thru-Hiker's Companion 2005, by going to www.aldha.org

Wow! Good list, very comprehensive, but it needs a bit of updating. Off the top of my head, the list includes Rainbow Springs, 4 Pines, The Cascade B&B, and the Pie Lady, all of which are closed. Readers consulting this list should also be aware that many of the prices listed will be higher in 2006.

You might also add Greasy Creek Friendly in Baker NC (about 25 miles north of Erwin). I think their rate was about $15. Hope to see you this spring. Your place looks awesome!

We will update when ever the new companion comes out. We have several updates for the hostel list we are saving incase they are not in the companion. If you know anymore that we are missing let me know.

What Baltimore Jack doesn't tell you is that the ALDHA only list certain hostels on the AT. For example, Uncle Johnny's is not listed (after a drunken campaign by BJ and Miss Janet to remove him) but is right on the trail.

As long as you don't act like a jerk or want to get high or drunk, UJ is an excellent stay near Erwin.

This may be aminority opinion , but I've stayed at both places. Uncle Johnnny is OK IMHO, but Miss Janet is great too!
