I remember my friend useda telescoping Mop handle he found at a K-mart. It was really light and he used it for years. Also, i used to use a mega-mid tent which comes with an aluminum pole that breaks down but it is not light or cheap so i ended up using my partners trekking pole and i made a short extension for it from a piece of aluminum tubing from the original. (i don't use poles)
Now, i just find a stick in the woods to set up my Sil-shelter or carry one if i'm going above treeline.

Along the lines of what Fiddlehead said, Black Diamond now makes a coupling device for trekking poles which came with my Mega Lite. This allows me to leave the supplied tent pole at home and just use my trekking poles.

Take a look at some of the cottage industry tent manufacturers, they sometimes sell additional poles.
