Just now typing from the free computer/internet at the Budget Inn in Franklin, N.C. (also home of the Hostel).

If you get to Winding Stair Gap around 9am or 11am, grab the free shuttle into the Budget Inn/Hostel. You will not regret it. It is well staffed, very hiker friendly, and within walking distance of Ingles, Dollar General, Ace Hardware, many restaurants, and OUTDOOR '76, one of the best outfitters for customer service I have come across yet. Plus, THEY HAVE BEER (Small tap-room in back with many craft brews.

Stay in Franklin, You won't forget it!

IIRC they start it about the 3rd week of March to catch the biggest bubble of hikers that they can. Great folks who treated us very kindly.

Enjoyed the Pancake Breakfast. I also got a picture taken by the Church Ladies that I was able to mail as a postcard. Pretty cool deal. The 'Hiker Festival' was a bust in 2013. Rained really hard & long. Felt sorry for Ron. I had a reservation @ the Budget Inn. But, they gave away my room to the guys in the 'Walk Off the War' group. I managed to score a bed in the Sapphire Inn.

Ron, when do you stop running shuttles? I'd like to hike the Franklin area but not during the bubble, more likely late May/early June.

We run a scheduled shuttle until May but I will help you anytime in the year if you just call ahead.
